Electrolytic capacitors in guitar amps are a common cause of problems and less than ideal sound and performance. These capacitors degrade over time due to the dielectric material inside them (a paste with moisture content) drying out and reducing their functionality. Common symptoms include increased hum, loss of low frequency response, low gain and motor-boating, Replacing aged or inferior quality electrolytic capacitors with high quality audio grade caps can solve these issues and offer better than original performance. Electrolytic capacitor upgrades are available for virtually all amps.
